Clark is the coparent (with Gretchen Miller), creative director and President of HIVE – a Portland based Visual FX+Animation studio that employs 35 talented artists in the creation of complex visual sequences for films, national commercials and the original children’s program Firehouse Tales. Currently, Clark creatively oversees HIVE’s production of the digital creature FX for the NBC TV series Grimm, Nike retail labs previsualization and the motion graphics for multiple series for NatGeo channel.
Clark began his career as a character sculptor+2nd animator at Will Vinton Studios on a series of Fanta Soda commercials. Fortune placed him at the studio at the birth of 3D animation and he was hooked. At Vinton’s, he had the opportunity to become a senior character animator on the infamous M&M spots at just 24 years old. In the years that follow, Clark has worn many creative hats on the commercial projects he directs, including Producer, Production Designer, Character Designer, Editor and Visual FX Supervisor. HIVE’s upcoming original film project CHIHUANHAS will be Clark’s first feature film writing and directing assignment. “Who wouldn’t want to make a movie about half Piranha-half Chihuahuas eating people? It’s a ridiculous dream come true!” says Clark.
Beyond HIVE, Clark’s passions are photography, invention, branding and product design. He is responsible for the patented Reactor mobile phone generator, Monstercine accessories for Red and Arri film cameras, and UNRULY pro cases for GoPro. Clark enjoys traveling the world, meeting new and exciting people, picking their brains and trading photographs for food, adventure and Pina Coladas.
