G. Pascal Zachary is a professor of practice at the School for the Future of Innovation at Arizona State University. He studies the interplay of technology and culture, and science and politics. Zachary is the author of Hotel Africa: the Politics of Escape (2012) and, under a grant from the National Science Foundation, is documenting the emergence of computer science as a research discipline in East Africa. He is also the author of Endless Frontier : Vannevar Bush, Engineer of the American Century(1997) and Showstopper (1994), about the creation of Microsoft’s Windows operating system.
From 1986 to 1995, Zachary reported on Silicon Valley for The Wall Street Journal and The San Jose Mercury News. For The New York Times, Zachary wrote the Ping column on innovation (200708). Many years ago, Zachary was a reporter for Willamette Week.
